Funding Forms A Crucial Component In NGO Sustainability

Image
Funding forms a crucial component in not only financing any institution’s operating expenses but  also in fulfilling its desired goals. Similarly, bodies like grassroots non-governmental  organisations (NGOs), local civil society organisations and other non-profit institutions that do  not yield profits and revenues require funding to finance their day-to-day expenses and also to  sustain their zeal and commitment to bring a social transformation. Despite that, it is  disheartening to report that we at HEEALS, Gurugram have not received adequate funds in  recent years to keep us moving forward. Lack of funds poses a threat not only to our collective  performance but also to the quality of our service delivery.  Since our inception, we have always kept the community at the intersection of our goals and  policies. Over the past many years, we have diligently and wholeheartedly reached out to  thousands of people through a diverse range of campaigns such as the distribution of sanitary  p

Menstrual hygiene too and how it effects mental health

Image
Menstrual hygiene too and how it effects mental health:  Written by volunteer-coordinator Janyl Kenenbaeva  First of all, let me introduce you what is “Menstrual Hygiene Taboo” Menstrual hygiene taboos are social and cultural restrictions, beliefs, and practices that surround menstruation and affect the way menstruating individuals are treated and how they manage their menstrual hygiene. These taboos vary widely across different cultures and societies, and they can have significant negative consequences for the physical and emotional well-being of those who menstruate. Some common menstrual hygiene taboos and the reasons behind them include: Menstruation as Impurity: In many cultures, menstruation is often viewed as impure or dirty. Menstruating individuals may be considered unclean and are sometimes excluded from participating in religious activities, entering certain places, or even cooking during their periods. Silence and Secrecy: In some societies, menstruation is surrounded by

World Mental Health Day ! Talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters

Image
Talk about mental health and show everyone that mental health matters As the theme of World Mental Health Day highlights,  ‘mental health is a universal human right’.  Awareness of mental health issues around the world and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health. World Mental Health Day 2023 is an opportunity for people and communities to unite behind the theme ‘ Mental health is a universal human right”  to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health as a universal human right. Mental health is a basic human right for all people. Everyone, whoever and wherever they are, has a right to the highest attainable standard of mental health. This includes the right to be protected from mental health risks, the right to available, accessible, acceptable, and good quality care, and the right to liberty, independence and inclusion in the community. Good mental health is vital to our overall health and well-being. Yet one in eight

NO ONE TALKS ABOUT TEACHERS MENTAL HEALTH !

Image
NO ONE TALKS ABOUT TEACHERS MENTAL HEALTH ! By Sachin Solanki    We are living in times when talking about mental health and its intersection with and influence on other forms of health is being normalized more than ever before. More and more people are coming out with their stories and experiences, making discussions around mental health more stigma-free. From celebrities to house-helps, mental health leaves no one. Yet, it is only unfortunate that we don’t talk enough about the mental health of people whom society depends so much on- about people who build lives through sharing and creating knowledge and these people are none other than our teachers.   What’s troubling them?   Teaching can be both a rewarding and a gruelling profession. The sense of satisfaction and fulfilment that comes through the dissemination of knowledge and ideas can be an enriching and illuminating feeling.   But teaching can also be a field filled with challenges and hurdles. Rigorous and exh

Meet With Team Member

Image
It was a pleasure meeting Aditya Naskar today. Our association with Aditya goes back to 2014 as part of our shared initiative called “The Curse,” a short documentary film that deliberates on the myths and taboos around Menstrual Hygiene, with a thorough focus on the lack of awareness that underage girls and menstruating people experience in a culture of shame and stigma. Years later, “The Curse” remains a symbol of HEEALS’ aim to pursue basic human dignity and proper menstrual hygiene for all. Aditya currently works with Intelehealth, a US-based Non-profit in the field of telemedicine. We wish him luck in his future endeavours!

A Call for Grassroots Funding !

Image
A Call for Grassroots Funding !  In India, grassroots non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play a crucial role in addressing the  needs of local communities and contributing to sustainable development. However, many of  these grassroots NGOs face significant challenges in accessing funding and resources,  particularly from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) companies, which often prioritize larger  foundations and NGOs. At Heeals (Health, Education, Environment And Livelihood Society),  our vision is to empower communities across India to use their resources and skills to improve  the quality of life, environment, education, and livelihood. Our mission is to create a vibrant civil  society organization committed to safeguarding health, environment, education, and livelihood to  promote sustainable development. As a grassroots NGO, we have struggled to secure funding  from CSR companies, hindering our ability to implement impactful projects that address the  pressing needs of our
